How to combine fandoms
Please feel free to ask if you have questions!
When looking through the tag set, please keep in mind the Uncategorized fandoms in the tag set. Some of these may be fandoms you've never heard of - but some of them may just be sub-groupings of a fandom you know.
App!
As sign-ups progress, karanguni's app may make it easier to find requests by fandom. This is updated on request and will say when it was last updated. This was stalled; k has got it working again. Please go ahead and use it, but sing out if it seems to be stalled again.
Sign-ups will end at 11:59pm EDT on 25 June. A letters post will go up soon.
The basics
- You need an AO3 account. You can request an invite here, or contact the mod directly.
- One sign-up only per person, please.
- If there are things that would ruin a gift for you, please enter them in the sign-up form, in your Requests, as "Do Not Wants" or "DNW"s.
- You can write prompts, if you want, but you don't have to. You can link to a longer document, a "letter", with more information about your prompts and preferences, if you want, but you don't have to. Letter links can't be added after sign-ups end. If writing a letter, aim to complete it by the end of June 28th. The preferences in your optional details can include characters and relationships, but your creator isn't bound by them, so a variety is best.
- You can organize your requests according to whether you'd like art or fic or both, and crossovers or fusions or both. Each request and offer must include at least one of the tags Art/Fusion, Fic/Fusion, Art/Crossover, and Fic/Crossover. Crossovers and fusions are defined at the collection.
- You can add notes about your preferences in the "Notes to Mod" field of your offers, or you can leave that blank. I'll try to accommodate your preferences. I can't guarantee you'll match on a specific fandom.
- You must sign up with 3 (min) to 10 (max) requests, and 3 (min) to 10 (max) offers.
How to combine fandoms
- Each of your requests and offers needs to include 2-10 fandom tags from the tag set.
- Your requests (in total) must include at least 5 different fandom tags.
- Your requests (in total) must include at least 5 different fandom combinations. (That is: Harry Potter and John Wick is one combination. A request for Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and John Wick includes 3 different fandom combinations: HPxB, BxJW, HPxJW.)
- Your combinations cannot all require knowledge of your one favourite fandom. Ie, the five requests AxB, AxC, AxD, AxE, and AxF would all require your creator to know fandom A.
- Don't put fandoms into the same request or offer if you aren't interested in all the combinations they could make. For example, if you want Harry Potter and Buffy, and also Harry Potter and John Wick, but you don't want Buffy and John Wick, putting those three in the same request would be a bad idea because your creator could have offered Buffy and John Wick but not Harry Potter. In that case, put John Wick and Buffy in two different request slots and put Harry Potter in both.
- Don't put fandoms into the same request if the combination they make wouldn't create a fusion or crossover. For example: don't put Discworld - Terry Pratchett in the same request as Discworld (Witches Series). It's okay to do that for offers, just not requests.

Date: 2022-06-19 10:33 pm (UTC)I would love some Pokemon in Star Wars, but I am not fussed which Star Wars, can I put several Star Wars subfandoms in the same request with Pokemon (if I make at least 4 other requests to hit the 5 minimum)? Or do they all have yo be separate?

If my requests are, for instance SW PT + Pokemon, SW OT + Pokemon, SW ST + Pokemon, and then I have another reqeust that is FFVII + FFVIII + Creator's Choice + Pokemon, although I have Pokemon in every request, my understanding is that this includes non-Pokemon options (ie. FFVII + FFVIII + CreChoi), and therefore should be okay, yes?

Date: 2022-06-20 02:40 pm (UTC)I almost wish we had a "bucket list" offer option for this one like Yuletide does. I feel like that might actually be easier with the idea behind this exchange.
We'll see what I come up with!

Date: 2022-06-20 09:15 pm (UTC)And I realized it doesn't after a minute - my brain just misunderstood for a second. It more just gives me more options to play with to match whatever other fandom they match with me on. But I'm excited regardless :D

Date: 2023-05-10 03:03 am (UTC)1) MCU and the X-Men movies. These have canonically crossed over twice: with Evan Peters' version of Quicksilver on WandaVision (sort of- it turned out to be a magical illusion) and with Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier appearing in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (but may have been a live action version of the 90s cartoon, judging by a musical cue and his wheelchair design).
2) Webb Spider-Man, Raimi Spider-Man, and MCU Spider-Man. Famously were all in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but each does have his own distinctive canon.
3) Deadpool and the X-Men movies. There are at least three timelines in the X-Men movies at this point (X1-X3, XMFC/DoFP/Apocalypse, Logan) and Deadpool might take place in one of them or a fourth one that only exists in his movies, but who knows- Colossus, Negasonic, and Yukio aren't in any X-Men movies and the better-known X-Men from those movies only appeared in Deadpool as a dialogue-free cameo in Deadpool 2 where they hide from him.
I can definitely forego any of these if it'd be against the rules, they just all seemed like kind of weird edge cases, so I didn't want to just assume it was a no without asking.

Date: 2023-05-31 10:52 am (UTC)Yes, I'm happy with people requesting all of those crossovers. I'm sure there are some more complicated cases I'd need to consider more carefully, but if two canons are primarily treated as different universes, then even if they have an official crossover, it's fine to fuse or cross them over a different way. Or to put it another way: do you have to work hard to explain how the premise is NOT true to both canons? If not, you're probably good.
