Crossworks 2023 Sign-Ups Open!

2023 sign-ups are open at AO3! See the sign-up form on the sidebar.

The basics
  • You need an AO3 account. You can request an invite here, or contact the mod directly.

  • One sign-up only per person. Do not sign up at all if I've previously banned you from any exchange for signing up multiple times at once.

  • If there are things that would ruin a gift for you, please enter them in the sign-up form, in the "DNWs and Optional Details" field, as Do Not Wants or DNWs.

  • You can write prompts, if you want, but you don't have to. You can link to a longer document, a "letter", with more information about your prompts and preferences, if you want, but you don't have to. Letter links can't be added after sign-ups end. If writing a letter, aim to complete it by the end of June 27th. The preferences in your optional details can include characters and relationships, but your creator isn't bound by them - please do not request fandoms where you are only interested in a very small subset of characters or worldbuilding.

  • You can organize your requests according to whether you'd like art or fic or both, and crossovers or fusions or both. Each request and offer must include at least one of the tags Art/Fusion, Fic/Fusion, Art/Crossover, and Fic/Crossover. Crossovers and fusions are defined at the collection.

  • You can use the "Notes to Mod" field to tell me more about your matching preferences, or you can leave that blank. I'll try to accommodate your preferences. I can't guarantee you'll match on a specific fandom or person. I will do my best to keep you from matching to someone you'd prefer to avoid, though I may need to clarify with you how to handle pinch hits or other situations.

  • You must sign up with 3 (min) to 10 (max) requests, and 3 (min) to 10 (max) offers.

How to combine fandoms
  • Each of your requests and offers needs to include 2-10 fandom tags from the tag set.

  • Your requests (in total) must include at least 5 different fandom tags.

  • Your requests (in total) must include at least 5 different fandom combinations. (That is: Harry Potter and John Wick is one combination. A request for Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and John Wick includes 3 different fandom combinations: HPxB, BxJW, HPxJW.)

  • Your combinations cannot all require knowledge of your one favourite fandom. Ie, the five requests AxB, AxC, AxD, AxE, and AxF would all require your creator to know fandom A.

  • Don't put fandoms into the same request or offer if you aren't interested in all the combinations they could make. For example, if you want Harry Potter and Buffy, and also Harry Potter and John Wick, but you don't want Buffy and John Wick, putting those three in the same request would be a bad idea because your creator could have offered Buffy and John Wick but not Harry Potter. In that case, put John Wick and Buffy in two different request slots and put Harry Potter in both.

  • Don't put fandoms into the same request if the combination they make wouldn't create a fusion or crossover. Examples:
    • Don't put Discworld (Death Series) in the same request as Discworld (Witches Series) - these are subseries of the same world with shared characters and settings

    • Don't put Tortall in the same request as In the Hand of the Lioness, since Hand of the Lioness is a subset of Tortall

    • Don't put Shadow and Bone in the same request as Six of Crows, since one is an adaptation of the other

    • It's fine to combine similar fandoms in this way in your offers, just not in requests.

New this year: Any Other Fandom tags
As suggested by [personal profile] argentum_ls, we are trying out a wildcard system that may make it easier for you to cover all the fandom combinations you are interested in receiving.

This is very much a bonus: you can ignore it completely if you want. In that case, simply don't select the "Any Other Fandom" tags.

If interested, here's how it works.

-In one of your requests, select a fandom from the tagset and "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023". This means that your creator can combine that fandom with any fandom you've ticked in any of your other requests.

-Or, in one of your requests, select "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023" and "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023 (Select Only In Combo With AOF Tag & No Other Fandoms)". This is using tags to say "Absolutely any possible 2-fandom combination is welcome as long as both fandoms appear somewhere in my requests this year".

Click to see examples and notes
Normal sign-up
Request 1: Fic/Crossover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Lords of Derkholm, The Old Guard, Dundaxian Codex
Request 2: Art/Fusion, Fic/Fusion: Dragonriders of Pern, The Hunger Games, Black Jewels, Dundaxian Codex
Request 3: Art/Fusion, Chronicles of Narnia, Revolutionary Girl Utena
Request 4: Fic/Fusion: Dundaxian Codex, Moby Dick
Request 5: Fic/Fusion: Dundaxian Codex, Chronicles of Narnia

Here I could get a crossover between Dark Lords of Derkholm and The Old Guard, but if I got a fusion between Black Jewels and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it would not fulfil my request.

This set-up also means that I am prompting for multiple fusions with Gloryhammer's Dundaxian Codex. This is different from putting Dundaxian Codex, Moby Dick and the Narnia all in the same request - if I did that, I might get Moby Dick and Narnia, and a VERY different Voyage of the Dawn Treader. (No shade or judgment if you think that would be great! This is purely an example.)

Using Any Other Fandom tags
Request 1: Fic/Crossover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Lords of Derkholm, The Old Guard
Request 2: Art/Fusion, Fic/Fusion: Dragonriders of Pern, The Hunger Games, Black Jewels
Request 3: Art/Fusion, Chronicles of Narnia, Revolutionary Girl Utena
Request 4: Fic/Fusion: Dundaxian Codex, Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023

This could save me time because if my creator likes the Dundaxian Codex, they can combine that with any other fandom in the requests. (Only with fic/fusion though). I'd have to figure out another way to work in Moby Dick, though...

Using Any Other Fandom tags - both of them
Request 1: Fic/Crossover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Lords of Derkholm, The Old Guard, Dundaxian Codex
Request 2: Art/Fusion, Fic/Fusion: Dragonriders of Pern, The Hunger Games, Black Jewels
Request 3: Art/Fusion, Chronicles of Narnia, Revolutionary Girl Utena
Request 4: Fic/Fusion: Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023, Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023 (Select Only In Combo With AOF Tag & No Other Fandoms)

In this case, Request 4 means I could get a fusion story between Utena and the Old Guard, Black Jewels and Narnia, or Dundaxian Codex and Pern. Anything's fair game. No combination is excluded.

This is the only way "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023 (Select Only In Combo With AOF Tag & No Other Fandoms)" should be selected in your requests. It should appear as the second fandom with "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023" as the first fandom, and there should not be a third fandom in that request.

If using "Any Other Fandom I've Requested in CW2023", please list out what those fandoms are in the optional details of the request where you have selected this tag. This helps creators check they're combining the right fandoms.

NB: Please be very cautious about offering these bonus tags - see further discussion here.

Please feel free to ask if you have questions!

Lastly
When looking through the tag set, please keep in mind the Uncategorized fandoms in the tag set. Some of these may be fandoms you've never heard of - but some of them may just be sub-groupings of a fandom you know.

Please include a note about your treat settings (enabled or disabled?) in your request optional details.

If you have blocked other participants, including likely pinch hitters, please help me by noting them in the offers notes among the people you would prefer not to match to.

App!
As sign-ups progress, karanguni's app may make it easier to find requests by fandom. This is updated on request and will say when it was last updated.

Sign-ups will end at 11:59pm EDT on 23 June. A letters post will go up soon.

I'd also like to draw your attention to:

1) A fun tool for combining fandoms in the tag set

2) The Uncategorized fandoms in the tag set.
Don't forget to check that category for fandoms that may be relevant to you. )

App!
As sign-ups progress I will update this app (thanks to karanguni) that will make it easier to find requests by fandom. Updated a few times a day - app will say when it was last updated.

Notes on Requests

Thanks everyone for signing up so far!

Since fandoms in requests can be a little difficult to browse, have a spreadsheet of current requests, with colour-coding for art and fic requests.

I will update this at least once more before close of sign-ups.

I've run into a couple of misunderstandings regarding signups and have emailed some people. Full guidelines here. Please check your email. Specifically, please make sure your requests fit the following guidelines:

-If you put fandoms in a request, you could get a combination between any of them. Yes, even the last two. Please don't put five fandoms in a request and expect to get a combination that uses the first fandom. Please only put fandoms in the same request if you'd like a crossover or fusion between them.
-Don't put closely related fandoms in the same continuity into the same request.
-Include at least 5 distinct fandoms and at least 5 different possible fandom combinations across all your requests.

2020 Sign-Ups Open

Welcome to this year's Crossworks! You can sign up here and see requests here. The tag set is here.

Sign-up guidelines
  • You will fill in 3-10 requests and 3-10 offers.

  • Each offer and request is for a group of fandoms, with minimum 2 and maximum 10.

  • You must include at least 5 distinct fandoms and at least 5 different possible fandom combinations across all your requests.

  • You must not arrange your requests so that it's impossible to fulfil them without knowing one specific fandom. For example: please don't make five requests in the style AxB, AxC, AxD, AxE, and AxF, because any gift for you would need to contain fandom A.

  • You could receive, or be asked to create for, any combination of 2 fandoms that is in a single request or offer. The more fandoms in a single request or offer, the more possible combinations there are, and the less you can predict what you'll receive or be asked to create!

  • Please do not put closely related fandoms in the same continuity into the same request. Some examples:
    • Please don't put Discworld - Terry Pratchett and Discworld (Death Series) - Terry Pratchett in the same request;

    • Please don't put The Avengers (Marvel Movies) and Captain America (Movies) in the same request;

    • Please don't put Star Wars Original Trilogy and Star Wars Sequel Trilogy in the same request.

  • Please don't make 2 or more requests whose tags are precisely the same (Art/Crossover and Fic/Crossover would count as different tags).

  • Offers are less restricted than requests. You're welcome to put closely-related fandoms in the same offer, to arrange your offers so that you're guaranteed to be creating for your favorite fandom combined with another fandom, or to enter two or more identical offers. If there is no one you can create for at the end of the sign-up period, I will contact you to invite you to expand your offers, with a period of time for you to do so.

  • You are welcome to leave prompts in the Optional Prompts and DNW box of your requests. Your creator is not required to follow them.

  • You are also welcome to link to an external letter for your prompts and likes.

  • If there are tropes or content that would ruin a work from you, please list them as Do-Not-Wants (DNWs) in the sign-up form. Do-Not-Wants in letters will not be enforced by the mod.

  • You cannot specify which characters your creator should include in their work for you, beyond what is in the fandom. However, if there are characters or relationships you strongly dislike, you can use your DNWs to exclude them. Please use discretion here - don't box your creator in and restrict them from using half the cast.

  • In each offer and request, please tick 1-4 of the boxes for Art/Crossover, Art/Fusion, Fic/Crossover, and Fic/Fusion. Art/Crossover means that you will get (or create) a piece of artwork that depicts a crossover. For how we're defining crossover and fusion, see the FAQ.

  • If you'd like to give additional information about what you want to receive or create (or who you want to receive from or create for), you can put information in the Notes to Mod box is offers. This is seen only by me. Or email me - morbane, gmail.

Have fun!

Since the format of the exchange makes it difficult to sort requests, a letters post will go up shortly.

Sign-ups will close at 11:59pm EDT on 23 June 2020. Countdown!

Nominations Brainstorming

Nominations open in a few days at the tag set.

Everyone can nominate up to 8 fandoms. I will not approve fandoms that have the words "All Media Types" or "& Related Fandoms" in them unless specifically agreed on.

If you have a fandom that's usually split up a particular way, and you want it combined (or split differently), or you want to ensure a fandom is split instead of combined, this is a post for discussing your preference - or just coordinating nominations with other participants.

Relevant sign-up requirements
-You have 3-10 requests and 3-10 offers
-Each request and offer must contain at least 2 fandoms
-Your requests must include at least 5 fandoms and at least 5 possible combinations of fandoms
-You cannot put two fandoms from the same continuity into the same request
-You cannot structure your requests so that a gift for you has to contain your favourite fandom (ie, you can't have just 5 requests in the combinations AxB, AxC, AxD, AxE, AxF)
-You cannot have 2 or more requests with identical tags.
